Wednesday 13 - Condolences

I am sure that you have heard me say what an influence Wednesday 13 has had on me and how his former band the Murderdolls were the ones who introduced me to this genre way back when so I won't drone on and on and on and on about that again! However, this album is by far his heaviest and darkest album to date! just a pure assault that doesn't let up one bit until the end with the "Condolences" but starts to pick right up slowly for the final track. This is just a masterful album from the master (yes I am a fan!) as he unleashes just a brilliant piece of work. I was unsure at first when this album and concept were announced along with the partnership of Nuclear Blast but, I am pleased with the overall outcome! Just a fantastic piece of work that has me glowing from ear to ear! With every song a standout there is so much to love with this album that I suggest you sit back and give this album a listen right now! He may hate people and only trust the dead but your ears will love what they hear!

KISS Vampirella (#1)

1970s Los Angeles with Vampirella and her band along with KISS who may come across something so much bigger then they could think of as it could be the end of Rock and Roll along with the world as a whole. This is an interesting issue that has you wanting more with great art as we get the seeds being sown but the tree hasn't started to grow...yet! This are about to get hotter than Hell in the city of angels as we get a glimpse of what is going on and how a vampire from outer space along with the hottest band in the world save the world.

Hellboy and the B.P.R.D. 1953

We have another early Hellboy story that has him coming face to face with a hanging witch and dead Romans in the first story and 2 monsterous grave robbers in the second story. Both are great and simple stories that quick reads that any fan of big red will enjoy. The art is always outstanding as I expect nothing less from the Mignola universe of characters. Get a copy of this one shot as you will not be sorry about this!

Lobster Johnson: The Pirate's Ghost (#3 of 3)

This issue is action packed as we have the Lobster riding on a ghost ship to serve justice! This is a cool issue with great art and lots of action as it ties up everything nicely in the end. The Mignolaverse is a great comic universe with so much going on and so many different characters that interchange so easily. I love it and you should to! Get yourself a copy of this story to see what I am talking about.

The Visitor: How and Why He Stayed (#4)

In this issue, the alien focuses less on Hellboy and more on his wife that is getting older and passes away she was the only thing keeping him grounded to Earth. The issue is a strong story that has you flipping each page as it pulls at each heart string. In a world where there is so much evil, he has one good positive thing. Now that good thing is gone. Great art and story as it all comes to an end next issue.

KISS - Forever

This 48 page special takes each member of KISS and place them at different points in history. The Catman during the era caveman, the Demon during the fall of Rome, Star Child during the time of pirates and Space Ace during Apollo 13. The stories are well done in that they are not forced or that outrageous. The art is also top notch and it is a quick read even though it is 48 pages. It is not over saturated with material that makes each story over stay their welcome. If you are a fan of the band, get this! This is the essence of KISS outside of the awesome music that they make. If you know the band then you know what I am talking about.

Doyle - II: As we Die

Now, I bring forth one of the most recognizable, beloved and influential guitarists in the genre as him and his band Doyle unleash their long awaited new album! With Alex Story of Cancerslug on vocals, much like the first album, this is a beast! This album is Punk fury mixed with Metal madness and moments of 50's melodies on a couple of songs. Oh my lord this album is so insanely good! I can't believe they sat on this album for so long! The team up of the monster and the wolf man have struck gold once again! The rest of the band are beyond tight as they show no mercy as this album just rips apart all that comes in its path and that is okay by me! I cannot even pick standouts as I am just in love with this release! This is truly a great listen for any night of sin. So, grab this album NOW or run for your life!

Danzig - Black Laden Crown

I think it is very safe to say that this blog and a whole sub genre of  Punk wouldn't even exist without Glenn Danzig! With that said, this is his latest offering from his solo band Danzig. There has been some complaints about the production of the album but, musically, I think this is one of his best albums since the first 4! I am loving this later day Danzig as the songs just shine despite bad production. Now, I am not one to complain about something so small but, could you imagine if these songs were cleaned up a bit? This album has a Sabbath feel at times in the pacing of the songs as, as he gets older, he still finds ways to rock! As for the legendary voice that spawned a million bands? Still as strong as ever! He is getting older and no, he doesn't sound like he did 40 years ago on those Misfits recordings but, no one would! Your voice changes with age and his still sounds good all these years later. So, for fans new and old, grab a copy as the songs on here are really freaking good! Best Danzig album from beginning to end in years! I cannot really pick any standouts as the quality in the songs are there! I don't think we should ever wait 7 years for a new album of originals ever again by Danzig! So, the king is alive and well, hail to the king!
