In Memoriam: Harold Ramis
I know this is a bit late but, I needed to find the right words to write instead of having some random words on this page. Harold Ramis was an actor, director and writer who worked on movies and tv shows such as SCTV, Analyze This, Analyze That, Caddyshack, National Lampoon's Vacation, Animal House, Groundhog Day, Airheads, Knocked Up, Meatballs, Stripes and Back to School. However, his most famous role and the reason he is mentioned on this blog, is as Dr. Egon Spengler from the two Ghostbusters films. The Ghostbusters are something I look back fondly from my childhood and his acting and writing for the films was great! I don't care if you hated the second film or not, I love them both! They have a third movie in the writing process where it is a passing of the torch movie giving the original guys minimal roles with Harold Ramis having a bit of a bigger role then the others (as we were told) and the writers bouncing ideas off of him to see what will work and what will not. The series will not be the same without him...you need the combination of Murray, Aykroyd, Hudson and Ramis to make the movies what they are. He has been a part of some of my favorite movies ever in some way or another whether he acted, directed or wrote them. Thus, in conclusion, we promise we won't cross the streams as long as you tell us about the Twinkie just one more time. We will miss you.

Walking Dead: Volume 20 - All Out War Part 1
Need anymore reasons why the comics are far superior then the television show? Well, in case you do (WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?) check out the latest trade from Kirkman and company where Rick and the other communities are at war with Negan and the Saviors. In the beginning of the war, Rick and company get the initial victory due to a brilliant use of walkers but, Negan retaliates in an explosive fashion that has me waiting and drooling with anticipation for part 2! We even have the return of a main character that has been missing for some time, and it is a welcome return. Who is it? Read it and you'll find out 'cause I'm not telling! There is more action in these pages then there is in all of the current season of the show. The art is great, the writing is topnotch...why can't the writers of the show take a note? As long as Kirkman still controls the writing of the comics, they will never suffer the fate of the show.
Ghost (#2)
On rolls the new Ghost series where Elsa is looking for a piece of her past, a connection to someone who became a host for demons and, she has made a deal with a demon while kicking others butts! Although alluded in the cover, the issue isn't full of action from beginning to end but, it sets up what is to come. Dr. October is hosting the soul of the demonic mayor, a serial killer is on the loose and it ends with a potential backstabbing moment at the end. As well, there is some talk of a bigger plan that the demons are setting up....wonder what it is. The art is great and the writing is good, this issue feels more like a launch pad for something bigger, some great reveal or more action....lets see where it takes us now.

You're Next (2011)
I've been hearing about this movie since its debut a couple of years ago at TIFF causing a huge buzz. Now, that it has finally hit DVD, was it worth the wait? YOU BET YOUR ASS! THIS MOVIE WAS SIMPLY BAD FREAKING ASS! Erin takes being the final girl to a whole new level as the family is picked off one by one by people in animal masks. What is the motive you may ask? Well, you'll have to find out! Is it an inside job or is it random? Is it neighbors? You find out soon enough but it doesn't take away from the brilliance of the film! All I can say is that the fox doesn't say too much and when the mayhem starts at dinner, it doesn't let up. Normally I am not a fan of home invasion movies as they can come across as very paint by numbersish but, this one was so well done. You feel that no place is safe for them as arrows come flying in and razor wire hangs in front of the door....and that's just the beginning. As you can tell, I REALLY enjoyed it. Oh! Keep your eye on the scene with the blender....it is awesome! The ending with the cop is funny and Sharni Vinson as Erin will have you falling for her in no time!

Hallows' Eve (2013)
Lets see...tell me if this sounds a little familiar. Danielle Harris, a movie set on Halloween, faceless psycho killer taking out teens....sounds familiar. Well, it does and here we have a movie that, at the beginning has some over the top acting (but those actors are killed off quickly) a witch scene that makes little sense and a revenge flick that feels like it is hinting at a sequel. Welcome to Bates Farm where we have a awesome haunted house starring Danielle Harris working there and takes care of a girl named Eve who was involved in a horrible accident deforming her face as a child. In sue revenge on the kids 10 years later who chased her out into that field where she got hit and....they're all dead with two stoners who seem to walk in at the end of all the action who thinks it is all part of the attraction. Some good kills as we are always guessing who the killer is until the end...but do we have the right guy? Who knows. Awesome looking pumpkin alter by the way....looks great! This is another movie that would be a great rent for enjoyment on a Friday night with friends....and beers. Beers is a must.
Zombie Hunter (2013)
Danny Trejo stars (briefly) in this over the top acting, some cheesy effects (note the dead animal at the beginning) b-movie awesomeness! The best way to enjoy this movie is not to take it too seriously as you will laugh, you will ask yourself what you just saw and if it makes total sense. One thing that has me scratching my head is that giant monster thing....what the hell is it? Danny Trejo is awesome as the ass kicking, zombie killing priest for the chunk of the movie he is in and Martin Copping is pretty good zombie killing machine as these zombies come about my a street drug gone wrong. Some of the acting is, yes, way over the top but, that's what you get when you have a b-movie....everything is a little low budget and the acting is way over the top....makes for enjoyment all around. Oh! And take note of the guest spot of the suicidal zombie....Shadow Windhawk (Morticians/Argyle Goolsby/DieMonsterDie) you say? Yep! He's there! Check it out if you need a movie for that Friday night movie marathon you have planned....may not be great but it sure is enjoyable.

Dead in Tombstone (2013)
Here we have Danny Trejo, who was a busy man last year in a movie that combines both Western and horror in Dead in Tombstone. Now, let me preface this by saying that I have a love for old Western movies. Both my grandfathers loved them and I would watch those cowboy and outlaw movies with them no matter how bad or cheesy they were! Here we have Danny Trejo, playing the outlaw Guerrero, who is killed by his own men over greed. Making a deal with Micky Rourke as Satan to exchange his soul with the souls of the Black Water Gang, this revenge tale takes off with bullets flying, dynamite blasting and no looking back! However, he only has 24 hours to fill all 6 coffins. This movie is simple, entertaining, well shot and has a bit of something for everyone to enjoy for fans of both genres. In the end, Satan's outlaw stands tall while the others perish but, does he get his soul back? Find out as this outlaw turns good in a revenge/outlaw movie that uses the cliches with maximum return in an explosive, hellish fun movie with maybe a hint of a sequal!
