Today, we lost a original. Someone who helped to create the slasher genre as we know it today. Today, we have lost Gunnar Hansen, the original Leatherface from Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Sure, there is a debate that Peeping Tom and Psycho were the originals but, you can not discount the influence that TCM has had on slasher films since its debut. One reason that the film has been so influential and continues to this day is the performance of Gunnar as Leatherface. The sounds he makes, the way he moves and the way he wields that chainsaw is masterful. Sure, he has done other movies including the last TCM 3D where he plays a role but, he will always be Leatherface. Maybe the best one to ever put the mask on. He created what we know of him from that performance while everyone else has been following in his footsteps. R.I.P Gunnar, you will be missed.
